Bill Wyman is an active, lifelong metal detectorist who has made many interesting discoveries, such as this gallery of flint tool finds.
For many, Bill is best-known as the former bass player for the Rolling Stones – but there is another kind of rock that is a part of Bill’s life. In addition to being a musician, photographer, restaurant owner and author, Bill is also a keen metal detectorist who has made some interesting finds, including buckles and buttons.
Bill has sent through a collection of some of his flint tool finds, presented below as a close-up gallery of flint tools that Bill has discovered. Bill says that these flint tools – which include arrow heads and blades – were discovered by Bill in and around his Suffolk home.
Bill says that the flint tools are either Mesolithic or Neolithic, with the largest BC numbers representing the oldest tools – some dating back to over 8,000 BC.
The dates shown with each buckle in the slideshow below detail the historical period the flint tool originated.
Bill has a long history in detecting – and has even created his own Bill Wyman Signature metal detector. You can find out all about Bill Wyman’s metal detector here.
“Metal detecting is not just for anoraks or eccentrics; it’s probably the best and most enjoyable way of learning about our history,” says ex-Rolling Stone Bill Wyman.
So much so, that Bill Wyman has designed the metal detector with a unique appeal to children that has won praise from the likes of Richard And Judy.
