Bill Wyman has paid tribute to Leon Russell following his death, calling him ‘an unforgettable musical genius’. Leon died on Sunday, November 13, aged 74.
Leon is hailed as one of the musical greats of all time, performing with countless bands and music legends, before releasing his own music from 1970. Many of the songs he wrote became hits for other musicians, including the famous A Song For You, which has been recorded by over 100 different acts. Leon says he wrote it in ten minutes, but it spawned countless versions and covers.
Bill says:
Goodbye to a great and talented man, who I shared some wonderful times with. I performed, together with Charlie Watts and Stevie Winwood, on his very first album, and he generously performed on my first 2 solo albums Monkey Grip and Stone Alone. An unforgettable music genius.
