More than 30 items from Bill Wyman’s personal collection, including rare guitars, basses, amplifiers and Rolling Stones memorabilia, are heading to auction this October.

The collection is among the highlights of Julien’s Auctions’ annual Played, Worn, & Torn auction, taking place in Nashville on 22 October, just two days before Bill’s 90th birthday.

For Rolling Stones fans, the collection offers a rare opportunity to own a piece of Bill’s musical history, with instruments he has played, equipment from his career and memorabilia documenting his years with the band.

Among the highlights is a prototype Bill Wyman Signature bass guitar, which Bill played with The Rolling Stones during their 50th anniversary concerts at London’s O2 Arena in 2012. The instrument was also used for performances and recordings with Bill Wyman’s Rhythm Kings.

Another standout is a rare 1970s Dan Armstrong Model 341 electric guitar, valued at an estimated $100,000–$150,000. Bill also owned a prototype bass version of this instrument, which he played on tour with the Stones during the mid-1970s.

The collection includes vintage amplifiers, among them a 1965 Vox AC30B, estimated at $20,000–$30,000, and a 1972 Fender Twin Reverb amplifier from Bill’s collection that still bears a label from Shepperton Studio Centre, where the Stones stored equipment during the 1970s.

These are pieces with a genuine connection to Bill’s musical career, making the auction particularly special for collectors and fans alike.

Rare Rolling Stones memorabilia

Beyond the instruments, the auction features a selection of memorabilia from Bill’s personal archive, including four framed posters based on the artwork for The Rolling Stones’ 1978 album Some Girls.

The posters feature Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Bill himself, reflecting the album’s distinctive cover design.

Recalling the artwork, Bill explains that the original design featured famous women, but objections from some of those depicted led to the band members’ faces being substituted instead.

It’s just one example of the stories behind the collection, which offers fans a fascinating glimpse into Bill’s life with The Rolling Stones.

A celebration of music history

Bill’s collection is among the highlights of Played, Worn, & Torn, which features more than 450 pieces of music memorabilia.

The wider auction includes items associated with some of the biggest names in music, including Led Zeppelin, David Bowie, Elvis Presley, Ringo Starr, Queen, Cher and many more.

The event takes place in Nashville, with fans and collectors around the world able to browse the catalogue and bid online.

Whether you’re a serious collector or simply curious to see some extraordinary pieces from Bill’s career, the online catalogue is well worth exploring.
