Bill Wyman is to be honoured by BASCA – the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors – with a Gold Badge in recognition of Bill’s outstanding contribution to music. The award ceremony will be held on October 16, 2013 at the Savoy in London.

Each year BASCA, in association with PRS for Music celebrate the achievements of an outstanding group of men and women who have made a special contribution to Britain’s music industry. This year’s awards sees Bill be awarded the Gold Badge for his work in the British music industry.

It’s wonderful when you’re honoured by your contemporaries and I’m delighted to be a recipient of the BASCA Gold Badge Award this year.” – Bill Wyman

Each year up to twelve recipients from all areas of the music industry are recognised for their work in support of British songwriters and composers. The awards are an opportunity for BASCA members to acknowledge and thank those who have contributed to their career.

Past recipients include performers, session musicians, producers and engineers, orchestrators, arrangers, publishers, managers and broadcasters. Some recipients may also be songwriters or composers in their own right but all have supported the music writing community through aspects of their work.

Simon Darlow, Chairman of BASCA said: “I love the Gold Badge Awards! They are warmly given to those who contribute so much, often behind the scenes, to make our business so successful. It’s an honour and a pleasure for BASCA to give these awards in celebration of their achievements.”

Presented since 1974, the Gold Badge Awards recognise exceptional people from right across the music industry who have worked in support of songwriters and composers. They are an opportunity for BASCA and its members to thank an outstanding group of men and women; from music publishers, lawyers and record executives to arrangers, musicians, producers and broadcasters.

Bill Wyman needs very little introduction. Having spent over thirty years with the Rolling Stones, Bill established his reputation as one of the greatest bass players in rock ’n’ roll history. Bill tours every year with his band The Rhythm Kings and they have been together since 1997 says the Gold Badge Awards web site.

Robert Ashcroft, Chief Executive of PRS for Music said: “The Gold Badge Awards celebrate those from across the business, who through their professional endeavours, benefit the work of songwriters and composers. Film production, art work, industry and legal support to management and performance all have a crucial part to play in keeping British music on a global stage. The recipients this year are all worthy winners and I’m delighted we have the chance to celebrate and recognise their contribution.”

The 40th Anniversary Gold Badge Awards follow at lunch at The Savoy, London on Wednesday 16th October 2013.
